The Liturgical Year

The liturgical year is made up of six seasons that guide the faithful through the life of Jesus Christ and the history of salvation.

Advent

A four-week period of preparation before the celebration of Jesus’ birth. It is a time for reflection, hope, and anticipation.

Christmas

The season where we recall the Nativity of Jesus Christ and his manifestation to the peoples of the world. It celebrates joy, love, and the gift of Christ’s birth.

Lent

A six-week period of penance, fasting, and prayer before Easter, where the faithful are invited to reflect on Christ’s sacrifice.

Sacred Paschal Triduum

The holiest “Three Days” of the Church’s year, where Christians recall the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Easter

A 50-day period of joyful celebration of the Lord’s resurrection and his sending forth of the Holy Spirit.

Ordinary Time

Divided into two sections, Ordinary Time focuses on the teachings and works of Jesus. One span lasts 4-8 weeks after Christmas, and the other about six months after Easter.
